Nevada County CalWORKS Launches New Site to Connect People with Jobs

(Nevada City, CA) - Nevada County partnered with R&B Communications to help launch a federally funded program to help decrease the high unemployment rate in Nevada County. This program is being spearheaded by CalWORKS and Butte Private Industry Council and is being funded by ECF Subsidized Employment stimulus funds. These funds will help employers and employees by subsidizing the employee’s wages during this economic downturn.

Nevada County had a fast turn around technology requirement and contracted with R&B Communications to build a centralized web-based database that could help streamline the multiple user data inputs and measure the outcomes along the way. Nevada County chose R&B Communications because of their positive past performance experience, positive reputation in the community as well as us being the best value vendor of choice.

"From contract to initial launch, it was only two (2) weeks. We had a challenge ahead and we knew that R&B Communications was the technology partner that could meet that challenge. We crafted the database together in real-time because we didn't have enough time to fully draft specifications in order to develop the system to track all the program components required. R&B's flexibility and ability to meet our expectations is a true testament to their clients and the local community they support."

The web-based database, launched in December 2009:

1) Allows employers who are in of an employee post their job opening / description
2) Allows applicants to post their qualifications
3) Allows Nevada County to match employers and prospective employees together and
4) Tracks and measures the outcomes to report back to the federal government

The program is a beta test for a year, but Nevada County is hopeful that the program will be extended past the one year mark. Nevada County CalWORKS hopes to share the best practices established with this new web-based database with other counties to help leverage the success they anticipate with this program.
